My April – May Media Diet
Some stuff I consumed in or around April and May, 2023:
📺️ Television #
- We're rewatching Schitt's Creek and it's exactly what I needed. Absolutely wild and entirely wholesome. Plus whenever I watch it I talk like Moira Rose, David!
- RuPaul's Drag Race (Season 15) wrapped up, and you better walk that fucking duck! 🦆
- RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars (Season 8) is back back back again!
- Top Chef (Bravo, via Peacock) - I've really enjoyed seeing chefs from other franchises join in this "all winners" season, it's a format I hope they revisit!
- Fleishman Is in Trouble (Hulu) - I kept expecting something bad to happen and it just... didn't. That said, I enjoyed the suspense and uneasy feeling this show gave me.
- Succession (HBO) - I thoroughly enjoyed this season and I'm sad to see the series end. The final few episodes were great.
- Honestly? Way too many Instagram Reels 🚮 a.k.a. TikToks from two weeks ago.
🎶 Music #
- Magdalena Bay - Mercurial World - This has become my go-to "I need to focus" album, and it also pairs nicely with long drives or thinking about mortality. Favorite tracks include Mercurial World, The End, and You Lose! - but this is an album I love listening to in its entirety.
- M83 - Hurry Up, We're Dreaming & Fantasy - H.U.W.D. is a classic in my mind and Fantasy sounds like its spiritual successor to me. We were lucky enough to see them in concert!
- Alfie Templeman - Forever Isn't Long Enough - A few tracks off this album got a hold on me: Shady (love any song that features BART samples), Forever Isn't Long Enough, Film Scene Daydream.
- Jessie Ware - That! Feels Good! - Love this album, but it's too short!
- Kim Petras - Coconuts (Single) - This song was introduced to me by the All Stars 8 lip sync, which I adored because of Jessica Wild's La Veneno reference.
- Kylie Minogue - Padam Padam (Single) - An absolute earworm, I can't wait for the whole album to come out.
🎮 Games #
- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
📚 Books #
- The Good Life - "Lessons from the World's Longest Scientific Study of Happiness"
- Quietly Hostile - I'm a devout Samantha Irby fan and I've been savoring her latest essay collection.
- Kickass Healthy LADA - I'm still learning to live with my recent diabetes diagnosis, and this book has been a great overview and made me feel a little less alone with everything.
